Starlab Planetarium Programs

If you are looking for an out of this world planetarium experience, but are turned off by the high cost of travel, then we have the perfect solution… let us bring the planetarium to you! For over 25 years, the staff of Science Plus has been creating and presenting interactive planetarium programs for both children and adults in our own custom designed STARLAB Portable Planetarium system. With it, we can present a planetarium experience that puts the universe right at your fingertips!

Unlike large fixed-dome planetariums, the STARLAB planetarium system is designed to work with individual class-sized groups of 30 or less. This intimate setting allows us to actively engage the audience in the program instead of just giving them a show. While we do have some pre-set programs, we will also be happy to custom-design a planetarium program to meet your specific needs.

In order to set up the STARLAB system at your facility, we need an open room with a ceiling height of at least 10 feet and an open floor space that is a square 25 feet on a side. We also need access to a standard 110 volt outlet. The Starlab sets up in about 30 minutes and is totally opaque to light so a dark room is not needed.

Standard STARLAB programs last 40 minutes each and are limited to 30 individuals at a time. There is a minimum fee of $ 500.00 which includes up to four workshops. Additional workshops cost $125.00 each. We also offer a special package price of eight 30-minute workshops for $750.00 and there is an additional discount for multi-day bookings.

Our Standard STARLAB Program Topics Include:

Constellations Tonight- A look at the current night sky including the moon, any visible planets and the constellations visible that evening.

Native American Mythology – A comparison of ancient Greek and Native American constellations showing how both groups used the stars to mark the passage of the seasons and help find direction at night.

Ancient Egyptian Mythology – Take a trip back in time and discover how the people in the “Land of the Pharaohs” envisioned the night sky.

The Solar System- Examines the size and scale and properties of the various planets found in our solar system and answers the question, “what really happened to Pluto”?

For Students in Pre-K and Kindergarten, we have a special 30 minute program entitled “Patterns in the Sky” in which students are encouraged to create their own constellations.
